My story

I go by the name of Dee..

Mother of two, I have always been a creative person, and when I became a mother, I found a new way to express my creativity by making beautiful and engaging sensory ribbons for my little ones.

My passion for sensory ribbons began when my eldest child was just a few months old. I noticed how fascinated she was with different textures and colours, so i decided to make her a sensory ribbon. I chose a variety of soft and silky, ribbons in vibrant colours and attached them to a wooden ring with loops and knots. As soon as I handed it to my daughter, her eyes lit up with wonder and excitement as she explored the different textures and colors, tugging at the ribbons and running her fingers along the silky fabrics.

Seeing my daughters joy and fascination with the sensory ribbon inspired me to create more. So I started to experiment with different shapes, letters, numbers and wands finding that the possibilities were endless. I discovered that not only did the sensory ribbons capture my children's attention, but they also provided them with a way to engage their senses, develop their fine motor skills, and encourage imaginative play.

As my children grew, I continued to make new sensory ribbons, tailoring each one to their specific interests and developmental stages. I crafted sensory ribbons with bells for auditory stimulation, personalised sensory sacks with different colours, textures and fabrics for tactile exploration, and items with reflective surfaces for visual engagement. I even created themed sensory ribbons based on my children's favorite animals, colours, and textures, which added an extra element of excitement and personalisation.

Beyond my own children, my passion for creating sensory ribbons expanded to benefit other kids in the community. I started sharing my creations with friends and acquaintances, and soon taking custom orders for sensory ribbons tailored to each child's unique preferences and needs. Whether it was a child with sensory processing challenges or a curious toddler eager to explore the world, I found so much joy in creating sensory ribbons that could spark wonder and curiosity in young minds.

My dedication to the craft didn't stop there. I became involved in local parenting groups and workshops, where I was able to share and absorb knowledge with other parents who were interested in introducing sensory play to their children.

Through the workshops and involvement within the community, I became known as a source of inspiration and encouragement for parents seeking ways to engage their children in sensory play especially during LOCKDOWN in 2020.  I shared tips for selecting safe and age-appropriate materials, ideas for incorporating sensory play into daily routines, and suggestions for using the items to support children's cognitive and emotional development while at home.

As my knowledge grew, so did my passion for creating sensory items which then evolved into a small business. I opened an online store where parents and caregivers could browse through my collection of handcrafted sensory ribbons, each one made with love and attention to detail. I  offer customisable options, allowing customers to choose specific colors, sounds, and lengths to suit their child's preferences and needs.

My dedication to this craft and my genuine desire to support children's development through sensory play provided a loyal following of customers who appreciated the thoughtfulness and care I put into each and every ribbon created. This business has not only allowed me to share my passion with a wider audience, but it also provided me with a sense of fulfillment and purpose as I witnessed the positive impact my creations had on children and families.

In addition to this online store,  I also collaborated with local early childhood educators to integrate sensory play into educational and therapeutic settings. I collaborated with professionals to design portable sensory bundles that could support children with sensory processing disorders, autism, ADHD, and other developmental challenges, ensuring that my creations could make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who needed them most.

As my children grew older, they continued to enjoy the sensory ribbons and sacks i lovingly crafted for them, incorporating them into their imaginative play and finding comfort and joy in the familiar textures and colors. They would often join me, helping to select materials and assemble sacks, learning the value of creativity, empathy, and dedication along the way.

This amazing journey as a mother and creator for sensory play has been a rewarding and inspiring one. Through my passion for crafting I hope to have touched the lives of countless children, families, and professionals, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and compassionate support for the development of young minds.

If you've made it this far, I'd like to say a huge thank you for your continuous support on this journey and taking the time to read my back story.
Love Dee x
